Safeguarding

Our setting is fully committed to promoting the safety, welfare, and wellbeing of every child in our care. We believe that all children have the right to grow, learn, and develop in an environment where they feel safe, valued, and respected. Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do, and we take our responsibilities seriously.

🌱 Our Commitment

  • We create a secure, nurturing environment where children can thrive emotionally, physically, and socially.
  • We recognise our duty to protect children from harm, abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
  • We work in partnership with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for every child.

🛡️ Legal and Statutory Framework

Our safeguarding practice is guided by:

  • Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE)
  • Working Together to Safeguard Children
  • The Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
  • Local Safeguarding Children Partnership (LSCP) procedures
  • Relevant legislation including the Children Act 1989 and 2004

👥 Roles and Responsibilities

  • We have a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and a Deputy DSL who oversee all safeguarding matters, ensure staff training, and act as the main point of contact for concerns.
  • All staff, volunteers, and regular visitors receive up‑to‑date safeguarding and child protection training, including recognising signs of abuse and understanding reporting procedures.
  • Safer recruitment practices are followed for all staff, including enhanced DBS checks and reference verification.

🔍 Responding to Concerns

  • Any concerns about a child’s welfare are taken seriously and acted upon promptly.
  • Staff follow clear internal reporting procedures and work closely with external agencies when required.
  • We maintain accurate, confidential records in line with data protection requirements.

🧒 Creating a Safe Environment

  • We promote positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and respectful relationships.
  • Risk assessments are carried out regularly across all areas of provision, including indoor, outdoor, and off‑site activities.
  • Children are supported to develop their own understanding of personal safety, boundaries, and how to seek help.

🤝 Working in Partnership

  • We value strong relationships with parents and carers and share safeguarding responsibilities with them.
  • We communicate openly and honestly, ensuring families understand our safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • We work collaboratively with health, education, and social care professionals to support children’s needs.

🔐 Confidentiality and Record Keeping

  • Information is shared only when necessary to protect a child’s welfare and always in line with GDPR and statutory guidance.
  • All safeguarding records are stored securely and handled with sensitivity.
